Salem, New Hampshire USA, January 4, 2000 - Newpoint Technologies, Inc., a leading supplier of Satellite Network Management Systems, introduces Newpoint-Mercury. This new unit is a self-contained remote site manager designed specifically for Satellite Earth Stations. Packaged in a 2U high rack mount enclosure, Mercury contains a full-function version of Newpoint's Compass server software with Flash or Hard Drive mass storage. The unit includes eight serial ports and three Ethernet ports for connection to equipment. Communicating to the Network Operations Center (NOC) can be via PT&T dial connection, leased line, satellite overhead channel, LAN or WAN. Dial backup is provided for LAN and WAN applications. A front panel 10BaseT control port is provided for interfacing to a laptop computer operating Compass View. Mercury includes a revolutionary feature called Data Replication for communicating back to the NOC. This feature allows LAN type performance over low bandwidth satellite links and maximizes available user traffic. Intelligent Proxy Agent functions that convert protocols from proprietary format to SNMP and a Graphical Driver Toolkit are supported. "By adding Newpoint-Mercury to our suite of Satellite Network Management products, Newpoint significantly increases its leading position in ground segment management software," said Paul Houle, CEO and President of Newpoint Technologies, Inc. "initial demand has far exceeded expectations indicating industry's need for this class of product to manage their enterprise." Newpoint Technologies, Inc. was founded in 1985 and today is the recognized leader for providing teleport control and network management of hybrid and broadcast distribution systems.
