DSTS-G, the Largest Small Business Procurement in DOD History was awarded to Artel
Award-Winning Compass Product Is Foundation for DISN Satellite Transmission Services - Global Contract
SALEM, NH - March 21, 2001 - Newpoint Technologies, a leading provider of network management solutions and developer of the innovative and award-winning Newpoint Compass software package, announced that it has been selected by Artel Inc. to support the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) with its communications systems.
Artel is one of three firms selected for the DISN Satellite Transmission Services - Global (DSTS-G) contract, valued at $2.1 billion dollars over a 10-year period. Newpoint will assist Artel in providing fixed and global satellite services for all government agencies (air, sea and land) that need satellite bandwidth and related satellite-based hardware, services and applications. Engineering support, licensing and host nation approval, along with other ancillary services, are covered under this contract. These capabilities will enable the Department of Defense to meet commercial communications needs on a global basis.
ARTEL has supported DISA on such Defense Information Infrastructure (DII) Programs as, DSN, DRSN, DISN, GCCS, DMS, GETS, SHARES, and TSP during the past fourteen years. When DISA decided to obtain satellite services through the DSTS-G Program, valued at $2.2B, ARTEL responded by forming a world-class team. The ARTEL Team consists of global satellite operators (PanAmSat, Loral Skynet, Newskies, GE, Intelsat), telecom carriers (MCI WorldCom, British Telecom, Winstar), the largest teleport operator (Verestar), earth station, terminal and antenna suppliers (IDB, VIACAST, ORBCOMM, Andrew, GE Spacenet), and other important partners such as TRW, CACI, Stanley & Associates, Motient, COMTECH Mobile Datacom, Globalstar, and Newpoint Technologies.
"We are proud to have Newpoint's award-winning Compass
and Mercury products at the heart of both network management systems
Artel is supplying to the government," said Paul Houle, president
and CEO of Newpoint. "Determining factors for Artel selecting Newpoint
were our products' scalability into very large applications, real-time
performance and intelligent remote site management, among others."
Compass is a highly flexible software package with a real data-accessing
speed advantage. The Compass real-time data server, with its special indexing
algorithm, can support data updates (even within very large systems) in
milliseconds.
Mercury provides management of unmanned remote sites with capabilities that include real-time performance, Web-browser interface, local logic, replication and dial-back connection on loss of a satellite link.
