Salem, New Hampshire USA, May 30, 2001 -- Newpoint Technologies Inc., a leading provider of network management solutions and developer of the innovative and award-winning Newpoint Compass(tm) network management software, announced that it has been selected by British Telecom to provide next-generation automated control and monitoring (C&M) solutions.
The awarding of the contract concludes an extensive six-month adjudication process in which British Telecom evaluated numerous C&M providers before selecting Newpoint. The adjudication committee at British Telecom chose Newpoint not only for the flexibility, usability and scalability of its products, but also because of Newpoint's commitment to continually expand its suite of product capabilities. This will ensure that British Telecom is managing its network with the latest in software technology.
"Our organization is excited about the opportunity to work with British Telecom," said Paul Houle, president and CEO of Newpoint. "To collaborate with one of the industry's leaders and top innovators on their many complex projects, and to continue to enhance our rich feature set and capabilities in the process, is very rewarding. British Telecom's selection of Newpoint furthers our lead as the supplier of choice for network management systems that involve converging networks."
Initial roll out will include systems in New York; Washington, DC; London; and Rome. Newpoint Compass will be used to provide centralized alarm management and scheduling of network resources based upon information received from British Telecom's higher-level management systems. The Compass servers and Newpoint Mercury(tm) element managers will interface with network resources located locally and at remote facilities throughout the world, execute local schedules and notify the network operations center of alarms or equipment failures.
Compass is a highly flexible software package with a real data-accessing speed advantage. The Compass real-time data server, with its special indexing algorithm, can support data updates (even within very large systems) in milliseconds. Mercury provides management of remote resources with capabilities that include real-time performance, Web-browser interface, local logic, replication and dial-back connection on loss of primary communications.
