Compass 5.0 is the most significant upgrade to Newpoint's core NMS offering to date. Many additional features are built into the core 5.0 product which will be announced during the coming months as they complete field trials.
ODBC support is now a standard part of Compass. ODBC is a MS standard method of communicating data to a relational databases. With ODBC users can now select their favorite Relational Database for storing Alarm, Event and Trend data. Compass is shipped with a default non-client server database. For applications requiring client access, a third party client server database such as FoxPro or MS SQL server should be purchased.
The optional SNMP Agent now includes completely updated capabilities, which include seamless support for HP OpenView. When a node in HP OpenView is opened the application creates a Newpoint colorized device symbol with a sub-map directly in HP OpenView. Clicking on the symbol will produce a device detail graphic that can be used for managing and configuring device parameters.
The C-TREND&HISTORIAN-VIEWER is now part of the core product and is supplied at no additional costs when purchasing Compass.
The device name has been increased to 31 characters. Event/alarm threshold names have been increased to 19 characters.
Newpoint Enterprise has been expanded to support applications with more than 100,000 devices.
Release 5.0 will be shipped with "On-Line help"
