Newpoint Releases Compass 5.0d

Salem, New Hampshire USA -- Newpoint Technologies, Inc, a leading provider of network-management solutions and developer of the innovative and award-winning Newpoint Compasstm software package, has announced the release of Compass 5.0d. Compass 5.0d introduces many new features and enhancements into the Compass product and strengthens Newpoints position as the Technology Leader in network management systems.
Perhaps the most impressive new feature of Compass in this release is the new "Compass Macro Recorder" which was driven by customer requests, and has already been tested and installed at a number of facilities. With the Compass Macro Recorder, operators can begin to record a session, then go into the Compass displays and exercise a number of commands for setting up a feed, test environment, or a service. As they execute each command, the Macro Recorder records each step of the process. When the operator is complete, they can stop recording and the session is saved off in the form of a script. This script can be run at a later time from the Macro Recorder, or from a button placed on a display. The next time the operator wants to run the test or bring that service on-line, they simply have to execute the script.
"This feature really came out of the relationships with our customers in the broadcast segment that are running a lot of occasional video services", elaborates Eric Johanson, Newpoints' Senior Development Engineer. "Rather than having the operators write scripts or code, The operators simply have to record the steps they would normally follow to set up that service. They only have to do this the first time they set up that service. The next time they are required to bring up that service, Compass will execute the procedure automatically when the operator executes the script. The scripting capability has always been in Compass, we just made it easier to take advantage of this powerful feature."
Newpoint's next release, Compass 5.1 will be available in the first quarter 2003 and will include other powerful clients that have driven by the customer base including Sheduling, Paging/Email upon alarm, Carrier Management, and Hot Standby Server capability.
