HBO SELECTS NEWPOINT TECHNOLOGIES' NEWPOINT COMPASS SOFTWARE AS THEIR BROADCAST CONTROL SYSTEM
Kingston, New Hampshire USA, September 16, 1998 --Newpoint Technologies, Inc. -- the world's foremost designer and manufacturer of computer software programs for satellite earth station control and management and network device management -- has announced that the Company has reached an agreement to supply HBO with a Newpoint Compass based system to control their facility for the next 10 years.
HBO, A Unit of Time Warner, is a global leader in the production and distribution of television programming. The initial configuration of the Newpoint Compass System will manage HBO's Satellite Earth Station equipment, including ACUs, HPAs, various summary alarm faults, temperature, plenum air flows and Logitech's new audio processing engine.
"The Newpoint Compass System provides five-minute user configurable service monitoring", according to HBO Senior Vice President of Studio and Broadcast Operations, Dominic Serio, "The service-based aspects of the system allows us to monitor the equipment and devices that are part of live feeds, removing confusion as to what equipment is assigned to various services and whether a service is functioning."
Adding a service to the Newpoint Compass System is a simple matter of filling in a table that lists the service name and the assigned devices or equipment. All graphics, devices and summary alarms are then automatically organized and reported by service. This eliminates nuisance alarms from off-line equipment. Additionally, the Newpoint Compass System incorporates intelligent audio monitoring and control of HBO's 2K * 2K Vivaldi monitors, can control what is displayed on HBO monitors, and provides the ability to scan through a variety of services.
According to Vice President of Broadcast Engineering, Elmer Musser, "HBO selected Newpoint Technologies for this project because of their vast experience and expertise, and because Newpoint Compass is the only software that is an out of the box solution that is truly user configurable, that we can maintain and add to ourselves."
