NEWPOINT COMPASS SELECTED BY ICG SATELLITE SERVICES FOR AUTOMATIC CONTROL AND MONITORING OF THE HOLMDEL INTERNATIONAL OPERATIONS CENTER.
Salem, New Hampshire USA, February 5, 1999 --Newpoint Technologies, Inc. -- maker of the world's foremost software for the control, management and protection of the critical traffic handled by satellite earth stations and network devices -- has announced that the company has reached an agreement to supply ICG Satellite Services, Inc. with a Newpoint Compass automatic central control and monitoring system.
ICG Satellite Services is a division of ICG Communications Inc. (ICGX, NASDAQ) that provides world-class communications services supported by advanced, state-of-the-art facilities and systems. ICG Satellite Services provides various voice and data facilities for global satellite transmission for U.S. and international Internet and telephony carriers. These services include the most recent installations of highly asymmetric (34/8) and OC-3 Internet services to Latin America. In addition, ICG also operates Maritime Telecommunications Network, Inc; which is the leading provider of C-band private satellite networks for the maritime industry. MTN delivers services for fax, data and video, and serves more than 60 cruise ships in addition to US Naval vessels and offshore energy platforms.
The Newpoint Compass System will manage the entire teleport at the ICG Satellite Services Holmdel International Operations Center, located in Holmdel, New Jersey, USA. The Newpoint Compass System also includes provisions for future growth of the Holmdel facility, as well as for systems on the high seas.
"After extensive research we have determined that Newpoint Compass provides exactly the state-of-the-art satellite earth station control and monitoring system we need," said Mark DeSantis, ICG Satellite Services Operations Director. " We operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and cannot afford down time. The Newpoint Compass System will give us control of critical local equipment and critical remote equipment, as well. Implementing Newpoint Compass directly supports our customers, who depend on us for superior quality and absolutely the highest reliability in communications networks."
According to Bob Woloss, Newpoint Technologies' Vice President of Business Development, Newpoint Compass software fits right in with ICG's commitment to deliver telecommunications network services with leading technology. "ICG management were very clear in their desire to control their own destiny by having the widest possible latitude in the configuration and utilization of their systems," Woloss said. "In fact, that is why we have designed Newpoint Compass as an open platform that will never hold our customers hostage. We even provide Newpoint Compass with unique database replication, which allows for high-speed control of remote equipment via limited available satellite bandwidth."
Systems based on Newpoint Compass are exceptionally easy to use and configure. The software provides features and capabilities that eliminate or greatly reduce the need for custom engineering, including a large library of built-in interfaces for satellite earth station devices from most major manufacturers. In addition, the optional Newpoint Compass Toolkit provides the capability to write interface drivers for virtually any device.
